About the Program

This program offers students the opportunity to experience and come in contact with the Spanish language, culture, and history that are unique of Quito; interact with local families, students, and other community members; and appreciate Ecuadorian biodiversity.

This program will take place in Quito, Ecuador, and its surrounding areas. Itinerary may include visits to:
  • Otavalo/Indian market
  • Cotopaxi Volcano
  • City Line
  • Mindo - tubing, Butterfly Sanctuary, zip line, and Chocolate Tour

Course Information

The courses offered in this program are:
  • SPAN - All Levels (6 credits)

Dates & Duration

This program goes to Ecuador for two weeks during the Summer semester.
Starts June 6th Ends July 1st
June 6th to 15th On Campus
June 18th to July 1st Abroad

Day 1: Departure Atlanta to Quito. Welcome dinner with host family.

Day 2: Class in the morning, chocolate making class in the afternoon.

Day 3: Class in the morning, Salsa lesson in the afternoon.

Day 4: Class in the morning, cooking class in the afternoon.

Day 5: Class in the morning, movie in the afternoon.

Day 6: Visit to Cotopaxi Volcano.

Day 7: Otovalo/Indian market tour.
Day 8: Day tour to City Line.

Day 9: Class in the morning, exhibition and tasting of Ecuadorian fruits in the afternoon.

Day 10: Class in the morning, Ecuadorian music workshop in the afternoon.

Day 11: Class in the morning, visit to Vivarium and botanical Garden in the afternoon.

Day 12: Class in the morning.

Day 13: Mindo Adventure Day Excursion - tubing, Butterfly Sanctuary, zip lining, and chocolate Tour. Farewell dinner.

Day 14: Transfer to Quito, departure Quito to Atlanta.

Cost & Payment

Program cost: $2763
**Please make note all payments are non-refundable upon receipt unless GGC cancels the study abroad program.
GGC tuition and fees are NOT included. Those must be paid before departure and must meet GGC deadlines for tuition and fee payments.

International Education Fund (IEF)

All GGC Students who have a minimum institutional GPA of 2.5 and have earned 24 credit hours, are eligible to receive a International Education Fund (IEF) Stipend (Scholarship). You must complete the IEF Stipend Application in the GGC Education Abroad Portal by the deadline:

Maymester/Summer March 15th
Award amounts depending on availability of funds
  • Less than 28 days: $500
  • 28 to 41 days: $700
  • 42 days or longer, up to $1500


The deadline to apply for this program is January 15, 2017.
